Launch of Child and Maternal Health Well-being Strategy and Action Plan Report - June 14, 2024

On the 14th of June 2024, the interagency Taskforce on Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH, under the leadership of Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, successfully finalized its Strategy and Action Plan Report, med at driving enhanced health outcomes for children and families while maximizing their development potential. The strategic framework outlines three key areas and nine recommations, which are being translated into actionable initiatives to ensure a healthier future generation of Singaporeans.

Background: Achievements and Challenges

While Singapore has achieved commable outcomes in child and maternal health, the landscape is evolving with new challenges emerging. For example, there's an increasing tr of first-time mothers delaying pregnancy, which may elevate risks associated with pregnancy complications and childhood obesity-a precursor to lifelong health issues.

The CAMH Taskforce was convened in January 2021 to explore comprehensive strategies for supporting children aged birth to 18 years along with their families, ensuring holistic health and well-being. As part of a coordinated effort beyond traditional healthcare boundaries, the Taskforce incorporates representatives from multiple sectors including health, social services, and education.

Key Thrusts and Recommations

The CAMH Strategy is anchored around three core thrusts:

Thrust 1: Holistic Health Support for Mothers

Thrust 2: Nurturing Healthy Lifestyles

Thrust 3: Strengthening Community-Based Services

Actionable Initiatives

The CAMH Action Plan features several initiatives designed to:

  1. Expand Accessible Services: Implementation of the mother-child dyad service delivery model at 19 polyclinics.

  2. Enhance Community Support: Launching the Family Nexus pilot in strategic locations across Singapore, ming to create a one-stop hub for families with young children and couples planning for marriage or parenthood.

  3. Support Vulnerable Groups: Collaboration between healthcare clusters and social agencies to provide tlored support services for lower-income families through initiatives like Project HOME and HEADS-UPP.

Outcome Expectations

The overarching goal of the CAMH Strategy and Action Plan is to empower Singaporeans with comprehensive health and wellness resources that will enable future generations to grow robustly and fulfill their potential. The report encourages the public to recognize the importance of mntning maternal and child health, with continuous efforts dedicated to implementing these recommations collectively.

This comprehensive plan marks a significant step towards fostering healthier communities across Singapore.
