The inter-agency Child and Maternal Health Well-being CAMH Taskforce has successfully completed the development of its comprehensive strategy and action plan. It was published on June 14th, 2024 with a commitment to drive improvements in children's health outcomes, maximize their developmental potential, and enhance family well-being.
With the implementation of 28 initiatives out of a total of 48, this strategic approach addresses existing challenges while acknowledging Singapore’s commable child and maternal health achievements. For example, the rising age of first-time mothers introduces risks for pregnancy complications and childhood obesity that can persist into adulthood.
Established in January 2021 by Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, this Taskforce is a key component in Singapore's strategy to provide holistic support across health, social services, and education sectors. Overseeing more than twenty agencies, it understand individual needs and mitigate modifiable risk factors beyond healthcare.
The Taskforce has thoroughly reviewed evidence-based research with experts and conducted consultations with families and frontline professionals from diverse domns to identify areas needing enhancement for child welfare and family support. The highlights of their work are as follows:
Thrust 1: Strengthening Pre-Parental and Child Health Services
This initiative focuses on strengthening healthcare services offered to new parents, pregnant women, and children to ensure they receive timely and comprehensive care throughout the lifecycle.
Thrust 2: Enhancing Community Integration for Well-being
It emphasizes integrating health, social, and educational services in local communities. This includes setting up one-stop hubs at key community locations like Our Tampines Hub, Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic, Punggol Polyclinic, and Sembawang Polyclinic to facilitate easier access.
Thrust 3: Cross-Domn Collaboration for Family Support
This thrust ms at seamless coordination among healthcare professionals, social service providers, and educational institutions. joint efforts in identifying families needing support, developing tlored interventions, and implementing these across sectors.
Thrust 4: Community-Based Care for Vulnerable Groups
Focusing on providing flexible options to ensure access to services, particularly for lower-income families, at-risk adolescents, and vulnerable groups who may face barriers in accessing healthcare.
The strategic actions outlined are designed to create a more integrated support system within Singapore's healthcare ecosystem.
