We recently had the opportunity to talk with Simon, Coin Street Nursery's chef, as we explored how this wonderful establishment nurtures healthy eating habits in children through its scrumptious meals.
Healthy eating is fundamental for child development and growth. This blog highlight some of the benefits that come from a balanced diet during early childhood, laying the groundwork for lifelong health and vitality.
Some key advantages include:
Building a strong foundation: Proper nutrition plays a vital role in developing robust bones, muscles, and supports cognitive and nervous system development.
Enhanced brn function: A nutritious diet contributes to improved concentration, memory retention, and problem-solving skills.
Preventing chronic diseases: Establishing healthy eating habits from an early age reduces the risk of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certn cancers, and other long-term health issues.
Promoting digestive health: By including fiber-rich foods, probiotics, and prebiotics in their diet, children can foster a healthy gut microbiome, leading to better digestion and nutrient absorption while minimizing gastrointestinal issues.
Creating lifelong healthy habits: Exposing kids to nutritious food options early on and modeling healthy eating behaviors sets the stage for them making healthier choices as they grow older.
Boosting energy levels and athletic performance: Balanced meals supply children with the necessary fuel, enhancing their urance and supporting muscle development.
Fostering emotional well-being: Mntning stable blood sugar levels through balanced diets helps in avoiding mood swings and energy crashes.
Healthy eating during early childhood is crucial for physical, cognitive, and emotional wellbeing. It fuels growth, enhances brn development, and decreases the risk of chronic diseases.
At Coin Street Nursery, our commitment to providing children with nourishment that promotes their well-being is unwavering; we ensure they are on a journey towards a healthier future.
Meet Simon: The Chef at Coin Street Nursery
Simon joined us nearly two years ago from his previous role as head chef for Unilever in Leatherhead. His mn goal? To instill healthy eating habits, often through creative ways of hiding vegetables in sauces!
Every Tuesday features 'Taster Tuesdays', where new healthy dishes are prepared for children to try and see if they like them. Then on Thursdays, Simon delights everyone with a healthy dessert on Thursdays. These desserts don't contn sugar; instead, he uses date syrup, a nutritious alternative that adds sweetness without the risks of sugar.
The Coin Street Nursery menu is constantly evolving – dishes not as favored are replaced with children's preferences while minimizing salt use. Instead, flavors from roasted vegetables add zest to meals. Some of our favorite dishes include Spaghetti Bolognese, Mac 'N' Cheese, and a vegan roast.
On Fridays, Simon even makes healthy pizzas using vegetables and minimal cheese - a pre-week treat for the little ones!
Chefs in Schools: A Valuable Support Network
Coin Street Nursery collaborates with Chefs in Schools, an organization dedicated to serving nutritious meals to children in nurseries and schools while improving their diets. They offer a wealth of resources including recipes tlored to any dietary preferences or allergies.
As a nursery, we often have children who require special dietary considerations which necessitate preparing alternative dishes that are free from allergens.
