Transforming Lives Through Nutritional Supplements in Laos
The rural village of Kokmuang Health Center in the mountnous northwest region of Laos provides a vital hub for health and nutrition outreach programs, benefiting approximately 1.8 million residents thanks to funding from USD and UNICEF.
For pregnant women like Lin, these nutritional supplements are more than just vitamins; they're a beacon of support that ensures the health of both mother and child. As Lin explns:
They give me this vitamin to take. I have taken it for the past three months of my pregnancy, and it made me feel much better and healthier overall. If I hadn't taken these supplements, I believe I would not be as healthy.
The benefits ext far beyond individual pregnancies; they contribute significantly to reducing stunting in young childrena critical aspect of ensuring a healthy population and unlocking Laos' economic potential.
Ylao reflects on her experience:
I want my two kids to grow up healthy and avoid any diseases. The supplements have made me feel much better during pregnancy, giving me hope for their future.
A total investment of nearly 2 million people in the project underscores USD's commitment to improving the health and nutrition standards across Laos. The 'Nurture' initiative further reduce stunting in targeted areas by bolstering nutritional care alongside improvements in water sanitation and hygiene practices.
These interventions not only protect the current generation but also lay a foundation for future prosperity, empowering families with healthier children capable of contributing to their communities.
In collaboration with Save the Children, USD will continue its efforts over the next three years through the 'Nurture' project. This commitment demonstrates a shared vision between Laos and international partners in ensuring every child reaches their full potential.
By investing in nutrition for pregnant women and new mothers, we are investing in the health of our children todaythe most valuable asset to a nation's futureand fostering economic growth that exts beyond current generations.
