Feeding Nutrition Tips: Nourishing Your Two-Year-Old
As your little one blossoms into a social being, their growing vocabulary allows them to become more involved in mealtime activities. Let's guide you through how to ensure your toddler is getting the nutrition they need while forming healthy eating habits:

Emphasize Healthy Choices: Incorporate discussions about healthy eating habits together.
By age two, your child should be able to use a spoon proficiently and drink from a cup using one hand. However, their chewing mechanism might still not be fully developed. This makes them at risk of choking when they rush through meals or consume certn foods that are easily swallowed in whole pieces.

Allow Finger Foods: Offer foods that can be held and eaten without utensils as much as possible.
Incorporate New Food Types: With each meal, offer new or different versions of previously disliked foods to expand their palate.
Vitamins may not always be necessary if your toddler is consuming a balanced diet. However, exceptions do exist:
Vitamin D: Infants under 12 months need 400 IUday and older children require 600 IUday to prevent ricketsa condition where bones become soft or weak. Sun exposure and dietary intake of vitamin D should be sufficient. If not, discuss vitamin D supplementation with your pediatrician.
Iron: Iron supplements might be required if your child's diet lacks meat, iron-fortified cereals, vegetables rich in iron, and if milk consumption exceeds 32 ounces dly which may interfere with iron absorption.
Calcium: Starting from whole milk 4 fat, consider gradually switching to lower-fat options like reduced-fat 2 before moving to low-fat 1 or non-fat skim milk for your toddler as they grow older.
