Establishing the Reference Interval for D-Dimer in Maternal Blood Plasma in Xi'an Region: A Critical Tool for Clinical Surveillance

Introduction:

In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on preventive healthcare management, particularly within the prenatal period. With advancements in medical technology and our growing understanding of potential complications during pregnancy, it's becoming crucial to establish reliable parameters for various markers that can indicate health status or predict risks. In this context, establishing a reference interval for D-Dimer in maternal blood plasma presents an important tool in clinical surveillance.

To address the need for such a reference interval, our study med to determine the normal reference range of D-Dimer levels in pregnant women from different stages of their pregnancy agnst a healthy non-pregnant female population. The research encompassed a total of 502 participants consisting of both pregnant and non-pregnant individuals.

Data Collection:

We conducted this investigation between February 2020 to March 2022, enrolling healthy pregnant women n=236 who were in the routine prenatal care at the Northwest Women Children Hospital. This was balanced by selecting a comparable group of 266 healthy non-pregnant females as our control.

Data Analysis:

The collected blood samples from all participants underwent thorough analysis to determine their D-Dimer levels. We utilized validated laboratory methods for this purpose, ensuring accuracy and reliability of the data. s were then compiled and statistically analyzed to identify the reference interval for D-Dimer within pregnant populations based on different stages of pregnancy.

Results:

Upon completion of our comprehensive analysis, we established that the D-Dimer levels in healthy pregnant women varied significantly across different trimesters. Early pregnancies exhibited relatively lower levels compared to those found later into the third trimester. This information suggests a critical window where increased D-Dimer may signal underlying health issues or potential for complications.

Clinical Implications:

The findings from our research have significant clinical implications, particularly in understanding the risk of micro-thrombosis during pregnancy. By setting this reference interval, healthcare professionals can now more accurately monitor and assess pregnant women's blood coagulation status through dynamic surveillance of D-Dimer levels. This enables timely interventions to prevent potential complications related to thromboembolic events.

The establishment of a region-specific reference interval for D-Dimer in maternal blood plasma is a crucial step toward enhancing prenatal care. It provides healthcare providers with a reliable benchmark to detect deviations from normal values that could indicate increased risks associated with pregnancy-related health conditions or potential complications. As ongoing research and advancements continue to evolve, our findings serve as a solid foundation upon which further medical interventions can be built for the benefit of maternal health.
